Portraits continued

In painting you are always asking questions, about how you handle paint, your limitations, your relationship to the subject and your source material.  These self portraits witness that dialogue.  I’m actively looking for a painting that is honest to the subject and around the subject. I have a starting point, ideas that interest me.  Amongst them is that distance between the mirror and the reflection of the subject that leads to a strange disjuncture in recognition.  I think you see it strongly in Bonnard’s self portraits. There is of cours also the element of time.  Recently I came across Theodore Roethke’s poem The Waking.  It seems to coincide with my motivations here.
